Portal de la Ciencia is committed to preserving the integrity of the scientific record and publishing only original and unpublished works, in accordance with principles of research ethics, transparency, and good practices in scholarly publishing.
Authors must ensure that manuscripts submitted to the journal are their own original work, have not been previously published, either in whole or in part, and are not simultaneously under consideration by another journal or publication.
The corresponding author, on behalf of all authors, declares that the manuscript has been reviewed and approved by all co-authors and that they have given their consent for its submission to Portal de la Ciencia.
All manuscripts received are subjected to a similarity detection process using Turnitin or other specialized tools available to the journal.
The results obtained through these tools constitute a supporting element in the editorial assessment. A similarity percentage does not, by itself, determine the existence of plagiarism, since textual matches may correspond to properly attributed quotations, bibliographic references, technical expressions, proper names, or other legitimate elements.
When similarity levels are identified that require further review, the editorial team will analyze the manuscript and the corresponding sources to determine the nature and extent of the identified matches.
The journal considers the following, among others, to be practices contrary to research integrity:
presenting another person's work, ideas, data, or expressions as one's own without appropriate acknowledgment;
copying or reproducing content without proper attribution;
presenting a previously published manuscript as original;
engaging in duplicate or redundant publication;
submitting the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal;
improperly using material protected by copyright.
When plagiarism, duplicate publication, redundant publication, or another practice contrary to research integrity is confirmed, Portal de la Ciencia will adopt the appropriate editorial measures according to the seriousness of the case and internationally recognized good practices in publication ethics.
Such measures may include rejection of the manuscript, suspension of the editorial process, withdrawal or retraction of an already published article, notification to the relevant institutions, and temporary restrictions on new submissions, where appropriate.
When there is a well-founded suspicion of plagiarism or any other conduct that compromises the originality or integrity of a manuscript, the journal may initiate an editorial investigation and request from the authors any explanations, documents, or evidence deemed necessary.
The journal will ensure that such cases are handled in a confidential, objective, and documented manner, respecting the authors' right to provide relevant explanations and evidence.
If misconduct is detected after publication, Portal de la Ciencia may take appropriate measures to preserve the integrity of the scientific record, including the publication of a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, as applicable.
The journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and duplicate publication and reaffirms its commitment to integrity, transparency, and responsibility in scholarly communication.
