Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Portal de la Ciencia journal recognizes the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific production and establishes this policy to guarantee transparency, academic integrity, and ethical responsibility in the publication of content.

The use of AI tools—including, but not limited to, text generation systems, data analysis, translation, or writing assistance such as ChatGPT—is permitted only as supplementary support in the development of the manuscript. Under no circumstances may these tools be considered authors or co-authors of the works, nor assume responsibility for the content.

Authors must declare, clearly and precisely, any use of artificial intelligence tools in the preparation of the manuscript. This declaration must include: (i) the name of the tool used, (ii) the purpose of its use (e.g., language improvement, text structuring, data analysis, among others), and (iii) the extent of the tool's intervention in the research or writing process. Failure to provide this information will be considered a breach of editorial ethics.

The authors are solely responsible for the content of their manuscripts. In this regard, authors must ensure that all content generated wholly or partially with AI support complies with the principles of originality, accuracy, scientific rigor, and proper citation of sources. The use of AI to generate false information, manipulate results, fabricate data, or engage in any form of scientific misconduct is expressly prohibited.

The use of AI tools does not replace the authors' substantive intellectual contribution. Therefore, manuscripts whose development relies primarily on automatically generated content without critical review, academic validation, and original scientific input from the authors will not be accepted.

Regarding the use of AI in images, figures, graphs, or any visual material, authors must declare its use and ensure that there is no improper manipulation that distorts, alters, or misrepresents the research results. Any deceptive use of these technologies will constitute a serious offense.

The journal Portal de la Ciencia may employ technological tools, including those based on artificial intelligence, to detect similarity, plagiarism, content manipulation, or irregularities in submitted manuscripts, as part of its commitment to scientific integrity and good editorial practices.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in the rejection of the manuscript, the retraction of the published article, or notification to the relevant institutions, in accordance with the international guidelines on ethics in scientific publication promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics.
