Self-archiving policy

The journal Portal de la Ciencia recognizes self-archiving as a fundamental practice for promoting the dissemination, visibility, accessibility, and preservation of scientific research. For this reason, the journal allows and encourages authors to deposit and disseminate their published works in repositories and other academic platforms, without embargo restrictions.

Self-Archiving Rights

Authors retain the right to self-archive their works, both during the editorial process and after publication, in accordance with the conditions established in this policy and the applicable licensing terms.

Authors may deposit and make publicly available:

  • the accepted manuscript (postprint), that is, the final version of the manuscript accepted after the peer-review process;

  • the final version published by the journal (publisher's PDF);

  • other versions of the work that are compatible with the terms of the applicable license.

Self-archiving may be carried out without an embargo period and without the need to request additional authorization from the journal.

Authorized Self-Archiving Locations

Authors may deposit their works in different media and platforms intended for academic and scientific dissemination, including:

  • institutional repositories;

  • subject or disciplinary repositories;

  • national and international repositories;

  • digital libraries;

  • academic networks;

  • academic profiles;

  • personal or institutional websites;

  • scholarly dissemination platforms;

  • other legitimate academic storage and communication services.

Deposit in these platforms does not affect the authors' copyright or the non-exclusive publication right granted to Portal de la Ciencia.

Conditions for Self-Archiving

Authors who self-archive their works must maintain the identification of the original publication and properly acknowledge the source.

Whenever technically possible, the deposited record or document should include:

  1. Full name of the author or authors.

  2. Full title of the article.

  3. Journal name: Portal de la Ciencia.

  4. Year of publication.

  5. Volume and issue, where applicable.

  6. Page numbers, where applicable.

  7. Article DOI, if assigned.

  8. Permanent link to the original publication on the journal's website.

  9. Information regarding the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, where applicable.

When a version other than the published version is deposited, authors are encouraged to clearly indicate that it corresponds to the accepted manuscript or a version prior to publication.

Self-Archiving of the Published Version

Authors may deposit and share the final version published by Portal de la Ciencia, including the PDF file provided by the journal, in institutional repositories, subject repositories, and other academic platforms, provided that appropriate attribution is maintained and the terms of the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license are respected.

The deposited published version should, whenever possible, retain the editorial identification elements, including bibliographic information, DOI, and a link to the official publication.

No Embargo Period

Portal de la Ciencia does not impose embargo periods on self-archiving.

Authors may deposit and make publicly available authorized versions of their works immediately after publication, without having to wait for a specified period.

Free Self-Archiving

Self-archiving articles published by Portal de la Ciencia does not generate any cost for authors.

The journal does not charge fees for the deposit, dissemination, or preservation of articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, or academic platforms.

Compatibility with the Licensing Policy

Self-archiving must be carried out in accordance with the journal's Licensing Policy.

Content published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license may be shared and adapted in accordance with the conditions established by that license.

Authors must respect any third-party rights that may exist over specific materials included in the article.

Purpose of the Policy

The self-archiving policy of Portal de la Ciencia aims to promote open science, the democratization of knowledge, the circulation of scientific research, digital preservation, and increased visibility and impact of published research.

The journal considers self-archiving a practice that complements scholarly publishing and contributes to expanding access to research findings while facilitating their consultation by researchers, teachers, students, institutions, and other members of the scientific community.
