Artificial intelligence in academic tasks: Support for learning or technological dependence?

This study had as objective to analyze the influence of the use of AI in the realization of the academic tasks of the 7th level students of the Pedagogy of the Experimental Sciences career of the Technical University of Machala. A non-experimental, observational, descriptive and transversal research design was used, with a mixed approach to obtain a comprehensive vision of the phenomenon studied, through the use of theoretical and empirical methods. The findings revealed that 78% of students use AI to structure their answers, while 45% use it without critically reviewing the content. In addition, 60% of teachers have observed a decrease in argumentation and analysis in the tasks delivered, although they recognize that AI has a high potential for higher education, provided that its implementation is carried out in a balanced way, guaranteeing meaningful and autonomous learning. It was identified that students in online mode make greater use of AI than those in face-to-face mode. The study highlights the need to promote a responsible and ethical use of AI in the educational field, avoiding technological dependence and encouraging the development of critical thinking and creativity.
