Impact of ChatGPT on critical thinking in 10th grade social Studies Students

This study investigated the impact of AI on the development of critical thinking among 10th-grade students of Upper Basic General Education in the area of Social Sciences at the Juan Montalvo Educational Unit. The research, with a mixed approach and a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, involved a purposive sample of 25 students and two Social Sciences teachers. Regarding the post-test results, a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills was revealed; it was highlighted that the interviews with teachers supported these findings, mentioning the effectiveness of ChatGPT as a tool for research and debate. In conclusion, the study demonstrated the positive impact of implementing a ChatGPT-centered activity system on the development of critical thinking in the specific context of upper basic education in Social Sciences.
