Generally, the study of successful cases is addressed as a reference for learning in the business environment as well as in the academy, leaving aside the valuable contributions that the study of failed companies brings. Starting from this premise, and taking into consideration the important role that entrepreneurs have in the performance of their businesses, the present study aimed to analyze the variables associated with the profile of the SME entrepreneur who ceased their functions in the city of Guayaquil during the last 6 years. Finally this study allows us to appreciate the differences and similarities between the skills of an entrepreneur considered successful and those who have been part of a business failure.
