This study analyzed the state of academic entrepreneurship in Algeria, focusing on its reality and the challenges that hinder its development. The objective was to diagnose the current situation of academic entrepreneurship and to identify the main institutional, socio-cultural, and pedagogical barriers affecting its promotion within higher education institutions. A qualitative analytical methodology was employed, based on the review of theoretical frameworks and the examination of policies, institutional initiatives, and educational practices related to entrepreneurship. The findings revealed that, despite the increasing interest in promoting entrepreneurship through university programs, incubators, and entrepreneurship support structures, significant challenges persist. These include traditional teaching methods, limited integration of entrepreneurship into curricula, lack of trained instructors, socio-cultural constraints, gender-related barriers, and bureaucratic obstacles. The study also showed that financial limitations and weak institutional coordination further restrict the effectiveness of academic entrepreneurship initiatives. It was concluded that strengthening academic entrepreneurship in Algeria requires comprehensive reforms, including innovative pedagogical approaches, institutional support, and a more flexible regulatory environment. The study highlights the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial culture within universities to enhance students’ competencies, employability, and contribution to economic development.
